Travel Guide: Rome

Wear

#1

Rome in the summer is probably one of the hottest, most miserable cities out there and in true European fashion the only people left in the city in late July and August are the tourists. For this reason alone I would try to avoid a summer visit to Rome. The spring and fall are very nice and the winter is quite mild making it a great place for Christmas and New Year's travel.

Romans love to dress up, would you expect anything different?! And it is not at all uncommon to see women dressed up for work, commuting on Vespas and Mopeds, high heels and all. Though I wouldn't recommend very high heels heels for sightseeing as the cobblestones can be quite tricky!

Shop

Rome is shopping sensory overload, and of course it is a prime place to window shop, or actually shop if your budget allows, at some of the big name Italian brands: Gucci, Prada, Versace and more. However, some of my favorites are the smaller boutique-type shops where you can find really unique things. I love both

Camp Marzio

and

Fabriano

for leather and paper goods,

Max & Co

(the younger offshoot of another, pricier Italian favorite

MaxMara

) for clothes and

Spazio Sette

and

CUCINA

for home goods.

I also love

la Rinascente

department store, its very easy to spend an entire afternoon there!

Stay

I normally don't like to do hotel recommendations as everyone's tastes are so different when it comes to hotels. However, I highly recommend the

Hotel Lunetta

. Rome, and especially its hotels can be crowded, dirty and expensive and this hotel manages to be none of those things.

Rome is one of those places that has a lot of personal significance for me, and over the course of several trips I have accumulated quite a list of favorites. I hope you enjoy!
