Travel Guide: Mallorca

Earlier this fall I spent some time in London for work, and on one of the weekends I was there I was able to go to Mallorca to meet up with my parents who were visiting some family friends who have a house there (a bit complicated, no?). Anyway, it was rather last minute and as we were staying with friends I didn't really do any significant planning. That said, I wanted to share some photos, its a truly beautiful place, and a couple of great spots we were able to uncover thanks to the inside knowledge of our hosts.

Port Petit, Calla d'Or

Castillo Hotel Son Vida

Catedral de Mallorca
Portocolom
Cliffs at S'Algar
Architecture of Palma

Prior to landing at the airport in Palma very late one Friday night in October I really didn't know much about Mallorca beyond its reputation as a Euro-party locale. After two days I found there is much more to Mallorca than that. To start, the island is quite large, much larger than I had imagined, and much of it is quite rural. Besides tourism, one of the main industries is agriculture and the locally grown produce and fish was amazing. Our friends' house is on the southeastern side of the island, about an hour drive from Palma. It is very remote but as you can see from the photos, the views are absolutely stunning. Its definitely not the easiest place to get to, but if you are looking to tack on a warm and sunny location to a trip to Europe its definitely worth the extra effort.
