Travel Guide: Lana, Italy
Lana is a tiny town near Merano in the Alto Adige region of Northern Italy. It is one of the top apple growing communes in the region and as you meander through town you will see apple orchards at every turn.
Villa Arnica in Lana is a new boutique B&B from the family behind the Hotel Schwarzschmeid and 1477 Reichhalter. All three properties are delightfully designed and very different. At the Villa Arnica don't miss the make-your-own Negroni bar on the second floor and set yourself up in a cozy corner for your aperitivo.
The restaurant at 1477 Reichhalter in Lana is a local hotspot so definitely make a reservation. We ended up only being able to go for lunch which was still delightful but book ahead if you want to try for dinner. We weren't all that impressed with the restaurant at the Hotel Schwarzchmeid and other dining options in Lana are limited.
{See & Do}
Hike. Most towns also have at least one local trail called a weg which is essentially a semi-raised path that connects multiple towns or villages. They aren’t typically strenuous hikes but offer amazing views of the surrounding countryside. One morning in Lana we did the Brandis Waalweg.
The Caldero/Kaltern wine region is nearby and the Strada del Vino offers several kilometers of wineries and tasting rooms. We’d driven along on a previous trip but many things had been closed due to a holiday. This time we stopped at Cantina Kaltern and Elena Walch at the Ringberg Castle which is a lovely spot overlooking the lake with a small restaurant and tasting room.
