Travel Guide: Cold Spring, NY
{About}
Cold Spring, NY is a tiny town about 60 miles north of New York City nestled right along the Hudson River. It has become a popular urban escape and boasts some beautiful nearby hiking trails and a cute small town atmosphere.
{Get There/Get Around}
A car is helpful if you want to explore some of the hikes a bit further afield, but if you’re just looking for a quick getaway and primarily want to explore the town, Metro North stops in both Garrison and Cold Spring from NYC and you can get an Uber if you need.
{Stay}
Though I can’t personally attest to it, the Pig Hill Inn is right on Main Street and looks charming. Airbnbs and other rentals are also plentiful in the area if you are staying over.
{See & Do}
Cold Spring is just south of the Hudson Highlands State Park which features some great hiking including Breakneck Ridge, the Cornish loop and Little Stony Point.
Garrison, which is one town down the Hudson river from Cold Spring, also has some lovely hiking trails including the Arden Point and Glenclyff loop, which is directly attached to the Metro North train station meaning you have a perfect place to park! It isn't a challenging hike, I’d call it more of a “nature walk”, but it meanders over the train tracks and along the river and has some lovely views over to West Point.
If you are in town on a Saturday, check out the Cold Spring Farmers Market.
We didn't make it on our last trip, but the West Point Foundry Preserve and the Boscobel house and gardens both look like lovely stops.
{Eat & Drink}
Most of the eating and shopping is clustered along Main Street which is an easy walk from the Metro North station.
